Of course, you can wear a long shirt or sweater, BUT you'll be hiding the funky feature! These are fun, and totally scream "I HAVE STYLE". Wear with a graphic t, or a loose fitting blouse & tie it at the waist! Let you imagination go wild with these!
Can we talk about the virtues of stretch denim?
Ok, good! We thought you wouldn't mind!
first of all, you're getting the great look of (hard, rigid, stiff) denim with the feel of light, stretchy, flexible leggings.
second - stretch denim works on ALL body types. it provides you with enough stretch to move about freely without sacrificing structure.
third - endless amounts of colors! sure you can stick with blue & black but why limit yourself?
fourth - every try squeezing into a pair of 2% spandex denim skinny jeans? good luck even getting them over your foot!
Denim is iconic. It's the hero of fashion. It's your other BFF. There are SO SO many different cuts, rises and washes of denim, so we've broken it all down for you to help you find YOUR look:
Over the years, we’ve seen high rise, low rise and everything in between. While we love to follow trends, it’s a good idea to figure out what rise best complements your body type—and take it from there.
If you want to show off your curvy hips, low-rise jeans are a great option. Just make sure they fit snugly at your hips to avoid the dreaded waist-gap problem. Athletic body types can also rock a mean low rise. Because you may not have the curve in your hips, the jeans may hang a little lower so make sure to choose a fitted style with stretch.
This is the most figure-friendly rise out there; comfortable for all body types, and a bit of a secret weapon for all of us who want a little more structure around our midsection. Mid-rise jeans are also really compatible with just about any top length, which makes them a great go-to all around.
This fit is often viewed as “retro” but the truth is, it’s classic. Athletic body types with smaller waists will love this fit. Hourglass shapes on the slender side look fantastic in high rise jeans with stretch. This is a perfect style for cropped tops and tuck-ins.
Great news: When it comes to wash, it’s all blue skies for you—there’s really no wrong or right when it comes to wash—it’s all about your personal preferences. Generally speaking, darker washes are best for going dressy, and lighter washes are great for beachy vibes. But your blue (or black or grey or white…) up to you.
A dark wash pair of jeans is universally appealing to all shapes & sizes (and wears over time like a dream). Look for dark blue and black washes to add to your collection. Dark wash jeans tend to run a little tighter because there is less 'work' involved in getting them to the dark color.
Light to Medium Wash
We like to call this the workhorse wash. From day to night, summer to winter - it’s always appropriate. What’s a wash tip to keep in mind? The lighter the wash, the more casual the vibe. Pro tip: Look for a seriously faded wash and pair with a light neutral top for a monochromatic look. Light washes tend to be a little looser because in order to achieve the light color, these jeans are seriously worked on, breaking down the fibers which ultimately makes them thinner and more giving.
Whether you're a die-hard true blue denim girl or not, colored denim can be fun! Maybe your pink & purple paisley top doesn't float your boat with blue jeans. Try switching it up with adding a pop of color & try light pink or purple jeans!
Like flares, there are varying degrees of this fit. For a dressier look, pair with a blazer and heels, and choose a more slim cut overall.
Boyfriend jeans are best for these body types:
Boyfriend jeans look great on apple and athletic shapes.
Jeans that have a looser fit typically pairs well with fitted tops (skip the volume this time!). If you’re looking for the perfect fit, look for denim with lots of stretch to give you that ultra-laid back look. If you want something with more structure, opt for less stretch and a simple cuff at the hem.
Straight leg jeans
Straight leg jeans are the more laid-back, less body -conscious cousin of the skinny jean. If you’re not totally down with skin-tight jeans, try a straight jean instead.
Straight leg jeans are best for these body types:
Hourglass, apple and athletic shapes will all rock a straight leg with style and grace.
We love a classic straight jean wore with flats, or rolled up with a bootie. Dress them up with a fancy top and heels/wedges.
This fit is a sort-of baby sister to the flare, and look great with a boot heel. Please try to refrain from wearing a boot-cut with flats. It won't do the leg any justice. The bootcut seems to come and go, but for diehard cowgirls, these are a must have for your funky boots!
Bootcut jeans are best for these body types:
Hourglass and pear shapes love a good bootcut jean.
Bootcut jeans have major wearability—which is why they keep coming back. We love them with a form fitting shirt, sweater, flannel layered look -- bascially anything. The thing to keep in mind is your footwear, and the look you're trying to achieve!
Flare / Bell Bottoms
These are usually slim fitted to the knee, then it all breaks loose into a wide bottom, and we LOVE them!
Flared jeans are best for these body types:
Flares look great on pear and hourglass shapes. There's symmetry at your waist with the bottom flare, and that creates balance - a balance that magically makes you appear leaner. It's a great optical illusion, and for that, we are grateful!
What should you wear them with?
Flares, by their very nature, run long, and they should because you WANT height with these. Sure, you can wear flats (flip flops, actually) and go for that hippie vibe. These def. look best with a high heel/wedge, any top you feel really good in, and you can totally throw on a long cardigan/duster because you've got the height to pull that look off!
And finally...the Skinny Jean!
These are slimming, tight fit, and have a very small opening at the bottom (which is why we love stretch skinnys!!)
Skinny jeans are best for these body types:
All. Yes. All. Keep in mind that the slim fit throughout (including the bottom) sort of point an arrow to your booty - and whether that's a good thing for you or not - it's something to keep in mind. If it IS a good thing - go for it! Wear your shortest crop top, tuck your shirt in, and strut your stuff! If it's NOT your look, go with a longer blouse (front tuck, please!), paired with a blazer or cardigan. The long layered look is also great with skinny jeans. Footwear: whatever you want! These slide easily into a boot, look great with heels/wedges, and look cute with rolled up cuffs & flats.
While we're discussing bottoms, let's talk briefly about shorts, skorts, and skirts!
Love your legs? Good for you! Show them off with whatever short, skirt, or skort you'd like!
Hate your legs? We understand! You CAN wear shorts, skirts & skorts but try wearing them with a kimono. We've got several available for you in different sleeve & overall lengths for you, and we promise you'll feel less self conscious. Your summer or vacation wouldn't be so pleasant if you felt like you couldn't show some leg, and kimonos ARE the answer! We also like to wear them over dresses if we're feeling a little puffy or bloated.
Moving on to our next hot topic, let's talk about Athleisure. It's been & will continue to be all the rage and honestly, we're psyched about it. Finally - we can be comfortable AND look good without sacrificing style.
